23Himakajima Island
Himakajima Island is the closest island to Nagoya, taking just 10 minutes by ferry from the Chita Peninsula. The local specialties are tiger pufferfish and octopus. The pufferfish dishes that are in season from autumn to winter are excellent. There are also many places on the island that serve octopus dishes, and of course, other dishes such as seasonal seafood can be eaten.
The island is surrounded by the beautiful and peaceful ocean. In the summer, swimming and marine sports can be enjoyed. On the eastern side of the island, Sunrise Beach has a swing facing the sea, which is known as "Heidi's Swing" because it looks like the swing from the famous Japanese anime "Heidi, Girl of the Alps". On the west side of the island, there is Sunset Beach where a view of the sunset can be enjoyed, and there are events where people can interact and play with dolphins.
