16Naegi Castle Ruins
”Naegi Castle” was created over 500 years ago on very steep terrain, it is a very rare mountain castle that was built on the summit of a mountain 432m high, using a man-made stone wall created through a large rock.
From the former site of the castle tower you are able to look down towards the magnificent Kiso River, and look out to see the famous Mt. Ena in the distance, it’s a location that lets you see Nakatsugawa in a breathtaking panoramic 360° view. “Naegi Castle” has a different name, “Kasumigajo”, and if you visit during the early morning of late autumn, the entire castle will be covered in a mystical fog from Kiso River.
Directly underneath “Naegi Castle” you will find what used to be the castle owner's house now used as a place of worship for his guardian spirit Hachidairyuuou (Eight Dragon Kings), there are simply so many places to see and so many things to do here.
