9Creating Food Samples
Most of Japan’s restaurants have replica versions of their dishes to easily show customers what they’re offering outside of their store. Most of these “Food Samples” that you will see throughout Japan are made in Gujo, Gifu Prefecture. In fact, Gujo holds over 60% of the shares nationwide within this business.
These “Food Samples” were born in the year 1932 in Gujo, Gifu Prefecture. Takizo Iwasaki, who was born in Gujo originally started creating these through using wax. To this day the various craftsmen and women are creating these food samples to be placed outside the various restaurants found across Japan.
Gujo has a program that allows you to create your very own food sample. You can make something which can be placed on your keys or smartphone, so we highly recommend it as a souvenir.
