18Nagoya Castle / Hommaru Palace

Nagoya Castle was erected in the year 1615 by “Tokugawa Ieyasu”, the founder of the Edo shogunate.
It received a golden statue of a fish, and boasts the largest total floor space of any castle keep across Japan, it has a luxurious and gorgeous palace court, and even impregnable iron walls protecting it, it was the first and most famous castle in Japan to be designated as a national treasure.
In 1945, it was largely damaged through the war by fire, however, being recognized as a special historic landmark, from the Edo period to the current day, alongside the Nagoya Castle Southwest Corner Watchtower and Nagoya Castle Southeast Corner Watchtower, the records and plans for the castle have been safely stored alongside the measured map from the start of the Showa era war allowing for the perfect reconstructions of the various areas across and around the castle.
You can also enjoy the food at “Kinshachi Yokocho” which can be food in the Edo Period Castle Town underneath the castle.
