14Nakasendo Ochiai-juku / Calligraphy & Tea Ceremony Experience
”Nakasendo”, one of the most famous and historic highways during the Edo Period of Japan. Even now, the highway itself and the emotions it harboured can be found within the mountains, “Ochiai-juku” is one of the relay stations that can be found within Gifu Prefecture. Getting to Magome-juku from Ochiai-juku is a rough and steep mountain pass road, and is currently popular as a walking spot within Nakasendo known as the “Ochiai Cobblestone Path”. Furthermore, within Gifu Prefecture’s relay stations, you can see the only troop headquarters (A high officials Ryokan) which has its garden and gate untouched by history, there’s so much to see and do.
Nearby to the Ochiai-juku you will find a temple where you’re able to experience traditional Japanese calligraphy & a tea ceremony, surely perfect for anyone that loves Japan’s traditional history and culture.
