3Takayama Festival
Gorgeous festival floats decorate the city, the cherry blossoms are in full bloom, and the "Karakuri" puppets give breathtaking performances!
Takayama Festival has a history of around 400 years. Takayama Festival is the general term for two festivals held in spring and autumn in the Hida region of Gifu, and the festival has been registered as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage.
The biggest highlight of the Takayama Festival are the floats made using traditional techniques that have been passed down through generations of local craftsmen. The floats, which have artistic and beautiful decorations installed by craftsmen and puppets that make elaborate movements, impress the audience. At night, the floats are illuminated with lanterns, creating an otherworldly and magical atmosphere.
